Prevention
Current Risks
One of the current risks to oral health is the increase use of sugary drinks,
including coffees, juices, sports drinks, and sodas. It has become a part
of our culture to drink these types of beverages, so if you can't avoid
them, use them sparingly, and after you indulge, be sure to rinse your
mouth with water and brush as soon as possible.
Another risk to oral health
is tobacco use. Our team is very conscious of the increase of oral cancers
and is committed to screening for oral cancer at every oral care maintenance
visit. You can do your part to prevent oral cancer by avoiding the use
of tobacco, in all forms, and limiting alcohol consumption.
Bad breath is a condition everyone wants to prevent. Halitosis (another name for bad breath) can affect anyone at any time. There are ways to treat and prevent bad breath. Most halitosis is caused by bacteria, which release volatile sulfur compounds in the mouth. We can recommend highly effective products and treatment strategies to keep your breath pleasant. Occasionally, halitosis is a sign of a medical condition so it is important to address this tricky topic.
Your initial appointment in our office always includes a comprehensive oral evaluation and medical/dental history review to screen for any conditions that may contribute to bad breath.
